Sunsoft's Masayoshi Son: Nuclear Fusion as Future Energy for AI Data Centers

SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son recently stated that nuclear fusion is the most realistic path to address the growing energy needs of AI data centers. As AI model training and inference consume skyrocketing power, traditional renewables and fossil fuels struggle to provide low-carbon, stable, and large-scale supply. Son has already invested in fusion startups via his Vision Fund. This statement directly impacts AI infrastructure investors and large data center operators focused on long-term energy supply. If fusion commercializes by the 2030s, AI energy costs could drop dramatically, and data center siting would no longer be constrained by hydro or solar availability.
