Snapmaker Secures Record $1.4B in Consumer 3D Printing Funding
Decision Brief
Snapmaker recently closed a 10 billion RMB (approx. $1.4B USD) funding round led by Cathay Capital, with follow-on investments from TAL Education and existing backers like Meituan, Hillhouse, and Shunwei. This is the largest single investment in the consumer 3D printing sector in two years. Revenue surged 10x year-over-year driven by the flagship U1 model. The U1 uses 4 independent tool heads and SnapSwap™ quick-change system for multi-color, multi-material printing, achieving 5x faster printing and 80% less waste. It raised $20.6M on Kickstarter with over 20,000 backers, a record for 3D printing, and has shipped over 100,000 units. By breaking the single-color, single-material barrier, the U1 makes desktop printers capable of producing near-consumer-goods quality output, expanding the market beyond engineers and enthusiasts. Next, Snapmaker will develop a model marketplace and AI tools to lower design barriers, building a hardware-consumables-content-AI ecosystem.
