GPT-Live-1.1 Rolls Out to ChatGPT, Codex, and dots with 13 New Voices
Decision Brief
OpenAI is rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 across ChatGPT, Codex, and dots, adding 13 voices and significantly improving accents in French, German, Hindi, Mexican Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and other non-English languages. OpenAI says delegation feels more natural, steerability is improved, and the "checking…" waiting feel during voice interactions is reduced. The release is rolling out to all users today, while the API version is marked as coming soon. For developers building voice products, the more substantive change is the native Decisions API integration: with native delegation, GPT-Live calls Decisions directly for low-latency decisions while the user is still speaking, without needing an extra hop through the app, whereas custom delegation still requires the app to call Decisions after receiving a Live notification. This difference directly affects voice assistant responsiveness and architecture choices. For regular ChatGPT voice users, the update brings new voices and less waiting; for developers building voice apps via API, the practical availability date still depends on the API launch—for now it can only be experienced within ChatGPT, Codex, and dots.
