OpenDesign releases open-source design Agent workspace, supports 20+ coding CLIs including Claude Code and Codex
Decision Brief
OpenDesign is Apache 2.0 licensed and local-first, shipping macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows x64 builds; Linux has no official prebuilt binaries and must run from source (tracked in #4368). It bundles no Agent of its own, instead connecting via MCP, CLI, and skills to 20+ coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Kimi CLI, Cline, and Trae—installed with commands like od mcp install claude; DeepSeek Harness runs as a first-class native runtime via the official dsh CLI, with structured streaming, model discovery, cancellation, and session resume. The repo includes 100+ functional skills, 151 design system packages, and a separate render template directory, reading each package's DESIGN.md as the brand contract at render time. Output covers prototypes (single-page HTML rendered in a sandboxed iframe), live dashboards, slides (exportable to HTML/PDF/PPTX/ZIP/Markdown), images, and video rendering integrated with HeyGen's open-source HyperFrames framework, producing MP4 via headless Chrome + FFmpeg. For developers delivering frontends with Claude Code or Cursor, you can hand a git repo plus DESIGN.md to the Agent and have it refactor existing components to brand specs. Users who prefer not to install a CLI can use the BYOK proxy POST /api/proxy/{anthropic,openai,azure,google,ollama,senseaudio}/stream by pasting baseUrl, apiKey, and model; the proxy has built-in SSRF protection at the daemon edge, blocking internal, link-local, and CGNAT addresses.
