Anthropic launches official Claude Code plugin marketplace

This repository is Anthropic's officially maintained Claude Code plugin directory, split into two folders: /plugins for plugins developed and maintained internally by Anthropic, and /external_plugins for third-party plugins from partners and the community. Users can install directly via /plugin install {plugin-name}@claude-plugins-official, or browse under /plugin > Discover. Each plugin follows a standard structure: .claude-plugin/plugin.json metadata (required), plus optional .mcp.json, commands/, agents/, and skills/ directories. The repo explicitly notes that Anthropic cannot verify the MCP servers, files, and other contents inside plugins, so users should confirm trustworthiness before installing. Plugin names are immutable slugs in the marketplace and cannot be changed after publishing, otherwise installed users hit a plugin-not-found error; to change a displayed name, use displayName instead. If a rename is unavoidable, it must be registered in the top-level renames mapping in .claude-plugin/marketplace.json, and the plugin loader will automatically rewrite the old slug to the new one on the user's next sync. For third-party developers submitting plugins to the marketplace, external plugins must meet quality and security standards to be approved. For Claude Code users who have installed a plugin, this means that once an author renames it, the installation record migrates automatically as long as the author configures the renames mapping correctly, with no manual reinstall needed.
