Pascal Editor open-sourced: a local-first 3D building editor for the browser and CLI
Decision Brief
Pascal Editor is a local-first 3D building editor built on React Three Fiber and WebGPU, running in the browser or CLI. With Node.js 22.13 or newer, users run npx @pascal-app/cli editor; the CLI starts the editor in the background along with an authenticated MCP service, automatically picks a conflict-free local port, and stores project data in ~/.pascal/data/pascal.db. The npm package bundles the CLI and MCP service, while the web editor runtime is downloaded once on first command per version and verified against the package's digest. For self-hosting, the editor ships as a single container ghcr.io/pascalorg/pascal-editor, with tags matching the npm package version, projects stored in SQLite under /data, protected by one admin password, PASCAL_PUBLIC_URL read at runtime, and the same image able to serve any domain. For Claude Code users, the plugin pascal-agent-skills@pascal can be installed via the plugin marketplace and also provides a local pascal mcp connect connector, requiring no Pascal account or API key and uploading no projects. Codex users can install the same plugin from the repo marketplace. The pascal-3d skill handles safe local or hosted MCP scene operations, while furniture-fit outputs bounded furniture footprint estimates and does not claim support for height, door-opening, or delivery checks. Note that each local CLI service should use only one active agent client; independent concurrent work requires separate PASCAL_HOME directories and service processes. Bundled packages such as @pascal-app/core, viewer, editor, and nodes can be embedded as needed; the viewer runtime and node definitions are installed separately, and built-in plugins must be loaded once before mounting.
