Replit CEO says it no longer works with Anthropic, OpenAI becomes default model provider
Decision Brief
Masad said onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt that cost, partnership, and performance drove the decision. After evaluating internal and public benchmarks, Replit concluded that Sol and Astra perform better at building apps from scratch, and ChatGPT is now the default model. Users can still choose Anthropic's Claude or other supported models, but most customers stick with the default, so Replit's payments to Anthropic may drop notably. Replit previously ran its platform on Claude models, and Masad said it had been one of Anthropic's top five customers. For developers building and deploying on Replit, the default now routes to ChatGPT unless switched manually; teams needing Claude must make an explicit choice. Masad also said enterprise contract revenue rose from about 2% last year to about 15% this year, with B2B now over 50% of total revenue. The report also notes that people familiar with the partnership deny it has ended, saying it continues; Replit's site and blog were still describing Claude Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 for Replit Agent production just weeks ago.
