Google brings personalized Gemini to Android Auto and cars with built-in Google
Decision Brief
Google is bringing Personal Intelligence to Gemini in the car. After the update, Gemini in Android Auto and cars with built-in Google can access user information from Gmail, Calendar, Maps, Photos, YouTube and Search. For example, on the way to the airport you can ask Gemini for flight status, and it pulls the flight details from a Gmail confirmation email and then checks the status; you can also say "take me to the doctor" for direct navigation, or ask it to "find the car wash in the photo I took last week and navigate there." The feature connects apps only after the user enables the Personal Intelligence setting, and personalized answers are available only when the phone is connected to the car. Without it, navigation, music, calls and questions work as usual, just without personalized answers. Personal Intelligence rolls out to Android Auto starting today, and cars with built-in Google will get support in the coming months. For owners who rely on Android Auto daily for navigation and calls, the in-car assistant's use cases expand from generic Q&A to personal tasks like checking trips and finding places; for owners of Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Volvo, Polestar and other cars with built-in Google, the capability won't arrive for a few months.
