Nvidia launches DSX POD modular data center design, cutting deployment to 14 days
Decision Brief
At GTC Berlin, Nvidia unveiled the DSX POD reference design for modular data centers built around Vera Rubin systems. Partners including Dell, HPE, Lenovo, and Schneider Electric install compute, networking, cabling, power, and liquid cooling into containers at the factory and test them there; on site, the unit only needs to connect to prepared power, cooling, and networking. Nvidia says deployment can shrink from six months to as fast as 14 days, stressing that the sooner a data center runs models, the sooner operators start earning a return. The DSX platform uses closed-loop liquid cooling that rejects heat to air without evaporation, which Nvidia says can cut cooling water use by up to 100%, while acknowledging extra cooling is still needed in extreme heat. First units are slated to ship globally in early 2027. For infrastructure teams building or expanding GPU clusters, procurement shifts from on-site construction to factory-preassembled container delivery, making build time and water use comparable options; but the 14 days assumes a ready site, with siting, power approvals, and site retrofits still on the user.
