Amazon SageMaker Studio integrates new AWS sign-up flow with social account registration and free credits
Decision Brief
AWS is bringing SageMaker Studio into its new sign-up experience: new customers can register with Amazon, Apple, GitHub, Google, or email, with no advanced AWS account sign-up, no phone verification, and for most customers no credit card. After sign-up, SageMaker AI creates a Studio environment in about 20 seconds and drops users straight onto the relevant page—for example, selecting a model from Hugging Face leads to a deployment page with a preconfigured endpoint. New customers get $100 in free credits covering model customization, training jobs, Studio notebooks, and endpoint deployment, with another $100 available; resources stop automatically when credits run out or after 6 months. The new environment inherits earlier improvements: permissions for customization, training, evaluation, and deployment are preconfigured, so no manual IAM roles are needed, and eligible accounts can use G5, G6, and G4dn GPU instances by default, with the instance menu showing quota availability. For individual developers and small startups used to logging in and starting work within minutes, the old AWS sign-up—email verification, contact details, phone verification, payment info, and support plan selection—was the last barrier before getting started, and it is now largely removed. Note that this applies only to new AWS accounts; existing accounts keep their current login method.
