Gemini personal intelligence expands to Android Auto and built-in Google cars
Decision Brief
Google added personal intelligence to Gemini in early 2026, initially as a paid feature and later opening it to all Gemini users, but it had not reached cars until now. The feature is rolling out to Android Auto and will arrive in vehicles with built-in Google software in the coming months. Once enabled, users can say "take me to my doctor" and Gemini pulls the appointment from a connected calendar, or find a location in photos via image analysis and start navigation. Personal intelligence is off by default, but users may have been prompted to enable data sharing in the Gemini app, and those settings carry over to Android Auto. The controls live under "Connected Apps" in Gemini app settings, with separate toggles for Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, etc.), Search, and Photos. Google says it won't train Gemini on personal data but will use user inputs and outputs, which may contain personal information. For Android Auto users who rely on voice commands in the car, this means fewer details needed for navigation and scheduling requests. With other passengers present, account data feeding answers may raise privacy concerns, and those users should review the toggles under Connected Apps. Google has not said whether built-in Google vehicles will get a separate settings interface.
