Anthropic report: junior technical staff share falls, meeting time rises
Decision Brief
Anthropic disclosed in the report that since early 2025, the share of junior employees in its technical division has fallen from 21% to 14%, and the share of junior technical hires from 27% to 9%; the technical team's share of total headcount also dropped from 61% to 56%, which the company partly attributes to coding tools letting non-technical staff build software themselves. Meanwhile, calendar data shows per-capita meeting time up 20% year over year and technical contributors up 16%. In an internal survey in April 2026, 27% of employees said Claude had boosted their productivity, and 20% said their work had shifted from hands-on execution to managing multiple Claude instances, which one engineer likened to babysitting. The report notes that human attention and judgment are becoming the productivity bottleneck, since Claude generates vast amounts of text that must be read and organized. For R&D teams that use Claude heavily, this means staffing is tilting toward senior people, meeting and coordination time is rising rather than falling, and teams need dedicated processes for reviewing model output and allocating attention instead of simply chasing generated code volume.
